This workshop will examine two fight scenes from Shakespeare’s plays, one comedy and one tragedy, with two actors and a director. They will break down the fight scene by examining the structure of the scene and discussing character motivations. The actors will first use words as their weapons, then add in gestures, and finally figure out what kind of weapons or hand to hand (punch/kick) contact they want to use to help tell the story. The workshop will conclude with a discussion between fight choreographer and director, plus a short demonstration of hand to hand combat focused on safety.
