Not so much the casting of a spell, but the conjuring of three tools, each with three elements – designed to illuminate Shakespeare’s language, help the actor discover the motivations, intentions and actions of the character, and to awaken more action-oriented choices for set speeches and scenes. Borrowing wisdom from Michael Chekhov, Madd Harold, and Canadian poets, Anne Tromsness explores three tools which may be applied to Shakespeare’s texts as well as contemporary dramatic works.
