Greenville County consistently ranks highest in the state for several types of sexual violence. Southern states rank higher than many regions for incidences of reported rape per capita. And there are many sexual crimes that go unreported, including rape, sexual abuse, and human trafficking. Is there something about the South that encourages silence around abuse? What are the factors that contribute to rape culture in our larger society, our own community, and how can we turn the tide against violence, give voice to victims, and break the cycle?
