Audiences for The Whipping Man will find themselves in 1865, staring into the remnants of a once grand house in Richmond, Virginia, ravaged now by the war that stretched across five Aprils. In this sketch by scenic designer Andy Fitch, we begin to visually understand what that old town home will look like with soot, fractured walls, and busted windows. Since 1996, Andy has led the MFA program in Scenic Design at the University of Alabama. He has designed over 75 equity productions and 100 collegiate productions. He has designed for the Alabama Shakespeare Festival, Red Mountain Theatre, The Arts Center and even includes two shows at The Warehouse among his credits: Betrayal and The Drawer Boy. He is a member of United Scenic Artists and we are pleased to have him back in the fold.
The Whipping Man, written by Matthew Lopez and directed by Brian Clowdus, will open on February 20th.
